Struggling not to jinx this

I don’t know how many of you knew that the Criterion Collection has a Facebook page—I didn’t until about twenty minutes ago—but there’s some potentially incredible news buried in the comments thread of a wall post by some lady who inquired whether there was any possibility that Criterion could release a DVD set for Jacques Rivette’s legendary 773-minute-long film (or is it a mini-series?), Out 1, noli me tangere (1968). According to whoever runs Criterion’s Facebook page: “[…] We’re going to try to get this done, but everyone in this thread is going to have to buy about 100 copies for us to break even…”

For many cinephiles, myself included, Out 1 has a Holy Grail-type aura; if it were to become widely available on DVD, particularly in a DVD set produced by Criterion, well… it just might scratch my itch for cinema permanently. I mean, what would be the point of continuing to watch movies?

I jest, but I really, really hope that something actual comes of this rumor of a rumor of something which might happen.
