Cinema on-campus: ‘Il mostro’

Let’s chalk this one up to my unprecedented obliviousness: UW’s  La cineteca italiana will be screening Roberto Benigni’s serial killer farce Il mostro (1994) tomorrow night at 6:00PM in the Sewell Social Sciences Building (1180 Observatory Dr., Room 6104).

Though I’ve never attended any of La cineteca italiana’s screenings, they do host them every Wednesday night, so it’s almost certainly worth checking out at some point. Il mostro is notable for having been the highest grossing Italian production ever until Benigni topped himself in 1997 with La vita è bella. I’ve found Benigni to be very annoying in pretty much everything I’ve seen him in—with the exception of Jim Jarmusch’s Coffee and Cigarettes, in which he wasn’t really given the time necessary to get on my nerves—but then again, I haven’t seen Il mostro.

Glancing at La cineteca italiana’s schedule, it appears they’ve got a few gems lined up, so I guess I’ll have to keep an eye on ’em in the weeks to come.
